The A.R.F. Shack is a small rescue that takes each animal in its care into individual consideration.  It is not only the desire of the Director and the Volunteers of The A.R.F. Shack to rehome an animal through our adoption and screening system but it is the intent of The A.R.F. Shack to rehome this animal for its last and final transition in its lifetime.

Rescue dogs often times are victims of instability; thus the major reason for behavioral issues in a shelter animal.  However, it is the mission of The A.R.F. Shack to work hand-in-hand first with our foster families to, in turn, educate them in order for them to be a leader and stable provider of interaction in the life of its foster companion.  It is not until an animal becomes re-directed and is willing and capable to proceed in that right direction of life will our adoptive families have the opportunity to interact with the animal as a potential candidate as a new family member.

The second stage of our adoption process is to work hand-in-hand with our adoptive family.  Our interaction often times does not stop at the time of executing an adoption contract.  The A.R.F. Shack is available for consult with its adoptive families at all times.  The A.R.F. Shack is also aware of services for adoptive families should they need or require more precise one-on-one interaction for internal education of the members of the household.

It is not the intention of The A.R.F. Shack to shuffle an animal; therefore, we are hopeful of your understanding and patience in our adoption and screening process.  When applying and/or showing interest in an animal that we may have available at The A.R.F. Shack please be aware that the adoption process consists of four stages:

1.  The submission of an application for review and processing;

2.  An interview with a representative of The A.R.F. Shack; and

3.  A home visit for the animal of interest providing for interaction with all members whom routinely reside within the household on a daily basis.

4.  Completion of an adoption agreement.  An informational copy of an adoption contract is attached in order for every applicant to proceed in this process with assurance that he/she/they will be able to complete this contract and commit to the terms and care required by a canine companion.
