Meet Grizzly. Both he and his rescuers have been through a whole lot just to get this guy off the streets and into safe hands. He was spotted repeatedly limping across 4 lanes of rush hour traffic at a busy intersection near I-4. A team of bystanders and passersby gathered to set out chasing, corralling, and stopping traffic in a terrible thunderstorm before we finally cornered him in a nest of dirt and weeds where it appears he had been living. The 8 year old chow/lab was filthy, severely matted and dangerously emaciated. His teeth are broken/missing, and he walked with a limp (from badly damaged foot pads). However, after two days of refusing food and snarling fearfully, he came to welcome affection from his foster mom, wag his tail at meal times, and seemed to be regaining energy with lots of sleep and plenty of TLC. He was named Grizzly because his bottom lip hangs loose like a grizzly bear, so his "smile" is more than a little alarming! But it is clear that this is a gentle creature who has survived a terrible life and just needs a little help.
Grizzly has been a large expensive project, but he is more than deserving, so I'm scraping up what funds I can to help him. As of today, Grizzly is neutered, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, de-flead, has received a complete examination from the vet, and a full package grooming. He is still hesitant and nervous if strangers reach for him quickly, but in a very short time he has relaxed into a wonderful loving dog. He gets along with my other dogs, follows me around the house, and loves to have his ears rubbed.
Grizzly tested positive for heartworms, but arrangements are currently being made for his treatment. We expect a full recovery. After surviving the life he's had, Grizzly deserves a wonderful permanent home where for the rest of his life he'll have love and affection, a full belly, and a soft place to sleep. He's a sweet soul that just needs some kindness and a second chance.
HEARTWORM POSITIVE: Both the treatment type and services provided will be by Representative responsible for this listing and/or its associated veterinarian's office. The commitment required from the adoptive family is the animal's attendance at the treatment, quiet time and relaxation after the procedure, followed up by monthly heart guard tablets each and every month in the future for the remainder of the life of the animal. The latter, of course, is an on-going parental obligation for all dog owners.
HEARTWORM TREATED: Grizzly has undergone his treatment and is presently undertaking his doctor's order of rest and relaxation in the home of his foster.
FOSTER UPDATE: Grizzly is still waiting for a home and has mellowed into a great dog. Still a little untrusting of strangers, but after proper introductions, he's a teddy bear. He has completed his heartworm treatment, got a full dental overhaul and has gained an appropriate amount of weight. He gets along with other dogs and cats, and is completely housebroken. He'll be the perfect dog for someone who gives him a chance.
